Katarina started skating ice at the age of five. It was her chance to demonstrate her skills and get into the Karl-Marx-Stadt special school for gifted kids. In this school, she was introduced to her teacher Jutta Muler. Witt had her first breakthrough season in 1982 when she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Since that time her elegance and grace attracted the attention of everyone. Then she began dominating this particular sport. Olympic victory At Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the ladies' bronze medal in figure skating after an extremely close contest. The following year she took home an even tighter contest. She did not win the free-skating contest, however, she was awarded gold for her results during the compulsory figure and short program. Witt was the first repeat woman to win the women's figure skating after Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 following a career that was successful as an actress. Although she didn't win a single medal, she enchanted fans despite her seventh place finish. Witt was admitted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in the year 1995.
